Valley Lutheran Church

Valley Lutheran Church on East Orange Street

The history of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, includes the development of several religious congregations that served the spiritual and social needs of the growing community.

Valley Lutheran Church began holding services in Chagrin Falls Town Hall in 1937. Within a year, the congregation grew from its original 68 members to nearly 100, demonstrating a strong demand for a Lutheran church in the community.

Services continued at Town Hall until 1943, when a fire destroyed the auditorium on the building’s second floor.

Following World War II, the congregation purchased property on East Orange Street, near the end of School Lane. Construction of the church began in September 1949, providing Valley Lutheran Church with a permanent home.

As the congregation continued to grow, additional space was needed for both the church and its parking lot. Properties west of the church on East Orange Street were subsequently acquired and cleared or relocated to East Cottage Street to accommodate further development.

Valley Lutheran Church’s history illustrates the growth of Chagrin Falls congregations during the twentieth century and the continuing need for expanded religious facilities as the village developed.
