Legacy & Planned Giving: Create a Lasting Legacy

An elder couple sitting together by a lake, thinking about their legacy.

The stories, photographs, and artifacts of our community belong to the future. By including the Chagrin History Center in your estate or long-term financial plans, you ensure that future generations will always have a place to discover, explore, and celebrate Chagrin history.

Planned giving allows you to make a meaningful, lasting impact that costs you nothing today but secures our heritage for tomorrow.

Ways to Leave Your Legacy

  • Bequests in a Will or Trust: The Simplest Way to Give. You can designate a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or the remaining assets after other beneficiaries are cared for. This flexibility allows you to prioritize your family while still supporting the Center.
  • Beneficiary Designations: Tax-Efficient Transfers. You can name the Chagrin History Center as a beneficiary of your retirement account (IRA, 401k, 403b), life insurance policy, or commercial bank account. This method is highly tax-efficient and completely bypasses the probate process.
  • Appreciated Stocks & Securities: Double the Impact. Transferring appreciated stock directly to the Center allows you to completely avoid paying capital gains taxes while maximizing your charitable deduction for the full market value of the shares.

Sample Bequest Language

You can share this exact language with your estate planning attorney to easily include the Center in your will or trust:

“I give, devise, and bequeath to the Chagrin History Center, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, [insert a specific dollar amount, a specific percentage of the estate, or ‘the residue of my estate’] to be used for its general purposes to preserve and celebrate our community’s heritage.”
