Manufacturing in Chagrin Falls

Industry Shifts to Manufacturing

As Chagrin Falls grew from a mill village into an established community, its industries changed with the times. Sawmills and gristmills gave way to foundries and manufacturing shops, their machinery powered first by steam and later by electricity. No longer tied to the river, factories could spread beyond the falls. As railroads, roads, and commerce connected the village to distant markets, locally made goods faced new competition. Growing prosperity also changed the landscape, bringing elegant homes, larger businesses, and a new sense of affluence to the village.

Early manufacturing included foundries, axe manufacturing & woodenware factories.
